Dame Pauline Green addresses Co-operatives United

Co-operatives' Reputation Grows as Answer to Economic Woes

Earlier this month the world's co-operatives came to Manchester for Co-operatives United, a showpiece event for the UN International Year of Co-operatives.

Working alongside Co-operatives UK, we helped use this once in a generation opportunity to shine a spotlight on the emerging role of co-operatives in providing an alternative to corporate short-term thinking and as an answer to current economic woes.

This follows on from annual initiatives such as Co-operatives Fortnight, where the publication of the Co-operative Economy Report helps to underline how the movement is not only succeeding in its social objectives, but also consistently outperforming the PLC economy financially too.

By proactively promoting the unique co-operative difference of member-ownership, actively managing reputation and successfully getting its message across, the sector is thriving, with politicians, business media, the public sector and other key stakeholders increasingly understanding the social, environmental and financial benefits of the co-operative model.
