Integrated Reporting: A Must For Sustainable Corporate Reputation

Integrated Reporting: A Must For Sustainable Corporate Reputation

Corporate reporting is evolving. The International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) has issued a call for business leaders to contribute to a global consultation process on the move towards integrated reporting.

Over 80 global businesses and 50 institutional investors are already directly involved in the IIRC’s work, including Coca-Cola, Clorox, Microsoft, Hyundai, Tata, Unilever, Marks and Spencer, SAP and National Australia Bank.

We believe Integrated Reporting is vital for organisations that are serious about managing and building reputation.

Integrated Reporting acknowledges that simply reporting corporate performance in financial terms ignores how we judge the value of companies in modern society.

There is growing demand for organisations to also measure and manage their social and environmental impact, as well as their performance for good corporate governance.

This is being enabled and encouraged by our digitally connected world, where stakeholders are influenced and influence each other to an unprecedented degree.

Influential stakeholders are not just financial analysts, but environmentalists, pressure groups, communities, employees – in fact anyone with an interest in how a company operates.

Only those organisations with meaningful stakeholder relationships and efficient internal processes and systems are equipped to respond to these new demands.  Those that are not, are running a significant reputational risk that could impact on the long term stability and sustainability of their businesses.

There has never been a greater need for organisations to prove that they are transparent and accountable, that they can be trusted and that they deliver value for all stakeholders, not just shareholders.

The IIRC has published a guide for business leaders and a database of example integrated reports.

At Reputation Consultancy, we’re supporting the move towards Integrated Reporting by helping organisations find ways to better measure and track changes to corporate reputation, implement reputational change within their organisations and communicate more effectively to enhance their reputations with all stakeholder groups.
